Bone Graft in Fairfax, VA

Fairfax VA Implant Dentist, Dr. Hang Le recommends a dental bone graft when the jawbone has receded or sustained significant damage such that it cannot support teeth or a dental implant restoration.
Bone Graft Procedure
In order for the dental bridge or dental implant restoration procedure to be a success, there must be enough bone in the jawbone to support the implant. If the bone under the gum is not wide, tall or dense enough, a bone graft is performed to create a strong foundation of bone for the implant to attach to.

A dental bone graft procedure is the recommended treatment by Fairfax, VA Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Hang Le to treat bone loss  and encourage regeneration of lost bone.

Bone loss is usually common when a patient has one or more missing teeth that was lost due to injury, decay from periodontal disease, or trauma. Without the tooth in place to stimulate the jaw bone, the bone around the missing tooth will begin to deteriorate.

How does Bone Grafting Work?
Natural bone has an amazing way of regenerating, and with bone grafting the regeneration process is helped with addition of special bone grafting material which is absorbed and used to restore lost bone.
Before any dental treatment,  there is a consultation with Dr. Le to outline the exact procedure. Dental Bone Graft procedure can usually be done with local anesthetic and is usually very successful.
After Getting Bone Graft
During the surgery, Dr. Le will use local anesthetic to numb the area where the bone graft will be performed, then a small incision will be made to prepare the site for the new bone material to be applied. Immediately after your Bone Graft, there may be some swelling and sensitivity for a few days for which our dentist will prescribe pain killers, antibiotics and antibacterial mouthwash as needed.

It can take 4-9 months before the bone graft has fully integrated and is strong enough to receive implants. During that healing period, we advise our patients to maintain proper oral care by brushing and flossing regularly, and maintain a healthy diet to ensure its success.
